‘Killing tigers’ in one shot
I’m Diego Barranco, a unit stills photographer with a passion for elegant design - a lens I bring to all my work.
My journey in photography started as a teen in Valencia, Venezuela (borrowing a DSLR my dentist mother was using to photograph teeth), capturing the world around me.
My academic journey encompassed a BSc in mechanical engineering and a Digital Media Art certificate in my adopted home of Toronto. However, I found myself gravitating, again and again, to the more creative aspects of both fields; to technical drawing, photography and visual design.
Eight years as a digital product designer helped me refine my eye for composition in multiple formats, while I constantly developed my photography skills in tandem with my design career.
In Venezuela, we use the phrase ‘killing tigers/matando tigres’ to mean side-hustling. For years, I’ve been killing tigers with family portraiture, product and event photography. Now, I’m taming those tigers, and taking the leap into full-time photography, with the aim of a career in unit stills.
Good design acknowledges the importance of human stories in the world around us. Now, I’d like to use my convergent skill set to help you tell your story.
